Rondo Nature Forest Reserves

Rondo Nature Forest Reserve is one of the priority conservation landscapes supported under the Building the Resilience of Forest Biodiversity to the Threats of Climate Change (BUREFOBI) Project. The project is implemented by the Government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT) and the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) Agency, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Through this initiative, the reserve is being strengthened to improve biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable ecosystem management.

Located on the Rondo Plateau in Lindi Region, Rondo Nature Forest Reserve is internationally recognized for its unique coastal forest ecosystem and exceptional biodiversity. The reserve provides important ecosystem services, including water catchment protection, carbon storage, habitat conservation, and opportunities for nature-based tourism and scientific research.

Rondo Nature Forest Reserve is one of Tanzania's most ecologically significant coastal forests, supporting many endemic and threatened plant and animal species. Its forests play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, protecting water resources, and enhancing climate resilience.

Through the BUREFOBI Project, conservation efforts are improving the reserve's ability to withstand the impacts of climate change, habitat degradation, wildfires, and unsustainable resource use. These interventions contribute to safeguarding Tanzania's unique forest biodiversity while promoting sustainable livelihoods and long-term ecosystem health.
